WARNING: Drool-worthy pictures ahead.
Mamasita is one of my fave Mexican joints in the city, and every visit here only leaves me wanting for more.
Tapas here is a messy affair - there's no getting around it, Mexican food is just meant to be eaten with your hands.
I, obviously, tried to be as ladylike as possible (as seen below) and prodded my food with a fork, before giving up and really going for it. Burying your mouth in corn and having taco sauce all over your fingers?
Not the kind of place to go on a first date, folks!

Look at that...tender chicken atop good old guacamole and fried tortilla chips (AUD$14). Crunchy, smokey and zingy to boot - the chipotle mayo really wraps it up nicely, making these babies dangerously easy to eat.
As for their tacos, it's what keeps me coming back, and favourites include the pig's cheek, as well as the fish.
The pig's cheek taco is something straight out of a Spanish-crooning, flamenco-dancing dream, and I highly, highly recommend it. They also do the best corn on the cob, lightly dusted with paprika and chargrilled to frickin' perfection.

We ended the meal with their chocolate and orange flan, paired with an almond praline (AUD$10). This felt like a halfway mark between a mousse and a cake, with a beautifully caramelized top that breaks apart when you spoon it. Despite the ridiculous queues, the noisy ambiance, and the sometimes-inconsistent service, this still remains as one of my fave Melbournian establishments for dinner and drinks.
