Can we just take a moment to discuss how friggin' amazing State of Grace is right now??
This newly opened, secret underground bar is hands down the most interesting place I've been to in Melbourne so far.

The dimly lit restaurant is the epitome of old-world glamour, complete with plush Victorian chaises and its pièce de résistance - a taxidermied giraffe. My friends and I stumbled upon this place during a night out in the city.
As we stepped into the restaurant, a man dressed in black walked towards us and asked if it was our first time here.
He ushered us towards a door and brought us to a small, square room... My defenses began to kick in because something was amiss - the room had two doors, and a huge old-fashioned bookshelf.
Why the hell would he take us here?!?!!!
I WAS TOTALLY READY TO JAB HIM WITH A PEN (like the ninja that I am) (call me Death Ranger, please) when he pulled
a book off the bookshelf and the freakin' bookshelf slid open to reveal a dark staircase!!!!!!!!

Once inside, the staircase leads to a swanky bar that serves up specialty cocktails to deep house and garage tracks.
My friend noted that the place was reminiscent of an old school gentlemen's club.

Rumour has it there exists an escape tunnel that was built in the bar to avoid police raids. Something to explore next time, perhaps? ;) We had such a great time chatting over drinks at State of Grace, and we'll definitely be back.
