Now that everyone's back in Melbourne, it was obviously necessary that we all got together to catch up about our summers and fervently discuss the impending doom that is Semester 2 (fingers crossed we make it out alive!).
I sat down for a yummy weekday breakfast with my friends Heather, Eve and Yan at Stovetop, one of my new favourite discoveries around campus :-)

Perched at the intersection of Leicester and Barry St, Stovetop is an inviting coffee space that offers brunch options until 3.30PM daily; which is a big plus point for days where you slump out of bed past midday. We had the warm and crispy cinnamon waffles with pomegranate molasses (AUD$14), and vanilla bean custard oozing out.
If that doesn't say 'homely goodness', I don't know what does!

Yan had the grilled chorizo baguette, with caramelized onion jam, house relish and aged Manchego cheese (AUD$14).
She remarked that the baguette was too tough to bite into, and gave up attempting after some time. I stole a bite, and enjoyed the saltiness of the chorizo, commingled with the sweetness of the onions and relish.

The duck eggs baked in sauteed spinach, roast pumpkin, Persian feta and house za'atar (AUD$14, seen below) was reasonably good - satisfying enough for the stomach, yet not good enough to make me order it again on my next visit.
I prefer my baked eggs with a bit of a spicy kick, and Chez Dré still does that most beautifully.

I'd say the standout item on the menu, however, would have to be the corned wagyu beef burger, with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese in a fluffy brioche bun (AUD$14.50). I've been here numerous times with various friends, and this dish has gotten the stamp of approval time and time again.
As for the coffee, it's wonderfully aromatic, and they serve a mean chai latte in particular.
Accessible location + good coffee = more visits to come, surely!
