Following the success of their Port Melbourne branch, the guys behind Third Wave Cafe have recently opened a sister cafe in Prahan, which serves up a delicious brunch that's definitely worth making the trip. With its dark wooden interiors and beautifully lit space, Third Wave Cafe is every inch the new (and very cool) kid on the block, adding to Chapel Street's diverse dining scene. I was invited to sample their menu, and popped by over the weekend with a couple of friends.
Yan and I, ready to dig in :-) Highly recommend ordering the Spirulina juice, as I did - so yummy, and healthy!
First up, is the Creamy Orange french toast (AUD$16.90). It was marvellous - very light and fluffy.
This is a cross between french toast and a bread and butter pudding (it tasted more like the latter, if you ask me), and I found myself sopping up every last bit of the sweet and creamy syrup on the plate.

Next, we had the Crunchy risotto hash brown (AUD$19.90). I'm a huge risotto fan - whenever I dine out for dinner, and risotto is available on the menu, I always pick it. I've had it so many ways - with chicken and apple, with asparagus and leek...but never have I come across this method of serving risotto. Fried, like a hash brown. I am SO on board with that. This was bloody wonderful. Together with spicy chorizo and a handful of rocket, this was personally my favourite dish that morning.
Eve and Jan looking cute, as usual!
The pork ribs (AUD$27), however, were a disappointment - there was more bone than meat, and it left Jan's manly appetite rather unsatisfied.
I saved the best for the last - runny yolks, mixed with spicy eggplant, zucchini, red peppers and Spanish chorizo; the Spicy ratatouille baked eggs (AUD$19.90) was a real crowd pleaser. My friends unanimously declared it as their dish-of-choice here. We ordered some fresh ciabatta bread to go with, and it was very thoughtfully warmed before being served.
This was incredibly filling, and the portion was way larger than the baked eggs at Chez Dré, or Hardware Societe.

All in all, it was a seriously hearty meal, save for the ribs, and it's one of the better brunches that I've had so far.
