Lazing on the beach and listening to the sound of waves, crashing against the shore - what a beautiful and calming way to end our holiday in Thailand. Here's a glimpse of the private beach at The Surin Hotel, which was utterly sublime. Thanks for the memories, Phuket - we had such a wonderful, wonderful time.

White, sandy beaches, sea salt in your hair - that pretty much sums up how I spent my summer. I took off for Phuket recently for a bit of R&R, and thought I'd share some of the photos here. Enjoy! Paid a visit to Baan Rim Pa, a treetop restaurant that boasts a breathtaking view of Patong beach. Fresh pomelo salad with shredded chicken and lightly roasted coconut bits! My coconut-obsessed self was thoroughly satisfied. *licks lips greedily* Crispy fried fish...simply spectacular when paired with a sweet chilli sauce. I have no words. Also, they do a beautiful Thai red curry with duck meat, which is served with lychee fruit on the side. If anyone is planning a trip to Phuket, I would seriously recommend dining at Baan Rim Pa.
Tasty food, great service, and a view that's to die for - what's not to like? :) Stay tuned for more snapshots here! Follow me on Instagram: @paintingrachelred for more updates. Partied on the steps of the Aritonang mansion in this paisley printed dress from good old Zara! Batam was surprisingly breezy, and Eve and I had a great time wandering around the compounds, taking in the fresh air. Clashing prints: Snakeskin and paisley It's turning out to be the best summer yet!

I got onto a ferry and headed to Batam with a couple of my friends over the weekend, where we frolicked around the island, consuming copious amounts of seafood and beer. Thanks Pat for being such a wonderful host and showing us a good time :-) Here, I'm holding up not one, but TWO boxes of Martabak Manis - a kind of thick pancake that's stuffed and eaten as dessert. My Indonesian friends have been raving about this for awhile, so I was pretty stoked to try it for the first time. It comes in two variations: one with chocolate and shaved cheese, and the other with chocolate filling. We stayed at Patrick's place, which was bloody enormous. Here's a statue of Virgin Mary in the garden: Here's Eve, looking resplendent in the morning sunlight <3 The feast to end all feasts before it was time to leave Batam :-) Always a great time with these guys!

I went on a spontaneous day trip to Wilson's Promontory, which is located south of Melbourne; a three hour drive from the city :) I hate to use the word awesome, but it was flippin' AWESOME. It was the most beautiful day of summer I've had so far -- postcard-perfect scenery, coupled with the warm Australian sun, is the epitome of what every summer should be like. We had a picnic on the beach and sang songs as we watched the sun go down. It was such a special day, and I loved walking by the seaside, and listening to the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
In all honesty, I felt kind of sad sitting on the beach and looking at the horizon... I think a part of me recognized the fleeting nature of the moment, and how one day all of this is going to end. One day I will grow up, because we all do - we grow up, get a job, and return to Singapore. And while I am sure I will immerse myself in an incredibly fulfilling job, I wonder if I will ever live like this again - fearlessly, and with abandon. They say there's nothing quite like one's youth. I'm not quite sure what to do in these moments of conflicting emotions. I guess what you can do, is to push these thoughts out of your mind, and allow yourself to live in the present. I never want to let my youth slip by.
