Took advantage of the great weather to frolick around the city in this flouncy dress! It's been freezing in Melbourne recently, which makes me want to stay home and hide under the duvet, so needless to say I'm pretty pleased that we're getting a spot of sunlight here and there this week. I wore this on a quick coffee run before (very reluctantly) heading back to class. Beautiful weather always makes me feel like playing hooky! Hope everyone's having a lovely week. x

Just wanted to say a quick Happy Mother's Day to my mum, whom I am sure will read this because she stalks me daily :-) Though we will not be spending this day together, I wanted to thank you for your cheeky humor that lights up my darkest days, your gentle but firm guidance, your limitless understanding and above all, the countless things that you've sacrificed for me. You are the most precious thing in my life. I love you to no end, mummy, and I'm counting down the days until I see you again :') Follow me on Instagram: @paintingrachelred for more updates.

Design lovers, typography geeks and the bread-devoted unite! One's visual dreams are realised at the newly opened Baker D Chirico, which combines effortless style with the humble breakfast staple. The charming establishment sits quietly on Faraday St, with rows of freshly baked loafs perched on its polished wooden shelves... And while it might be new in the neighbourhood, it has quickly gained quite the following. From what I've heard, the same wooden shelves are empty by mid-afternoon; with queues for its famous hot cross buns stretching towards the roadside. Nothing quite like a queue to pique my interest :-) Here, a wide variety of buttery pastries and bread are placed on display, and stepping into their tiny shopfront makes me feel like a grown up version of a kid in a candy store. I discovered this place a couple of days ago while taking an evening stroll; and couldn't resist taking home a loaf as well. Yum! And, let's not forget their sublime packaging - baked goods are wrapped in check-printed paper and placed in nondescript paper bags...it is this subtle elegance and clean aesthetic that, when paired with a great product, makes Baker D Chirico a force to be reckoned with. I got the raisin and citrus loaf, which has slivers of orange peel and plump raisins baked within. It's dense yet soft and slightly rustic, and goes well with hot tea in the morning. I'm already planning to pop in again over the weekend to get my hands on some pastries! Follow me on Instagram: @paintingrachelred for more updates.
Over the recent Easter break, my friends and I jumped into the car and headed to Yarra Valley to frolick with baby alpacas, sip on faaaaancy Moët & Chandon champagne and unwind from the madness that was Midsems. Here are some pictures from our trip so that you, too, can fulfill your alpaca cuddling fantasies: TOO. CUTE. After visiting a gerbera farm (and learning tons of cool facts about gerberas, like how to tell if the flowers are fresh / how to prevent them from wilting quickly), we stopped by Beechworth Bakery to grab a speedy lunch. Then, it was time to hit the road again and head to the Moët & Chandon winery! We were greeted by this dreamy, dreamy sight at the driveway of the compound: Cute wine steward at the facility! Postcard-perfect views.... Eve looking cute and enjoying her gelato as the sun sets :-) Wrapped up the night with dinner at Innocent Bystander. It was a well spent Anzac Day indeed :-) Follow me on Instagram: @paintingrachelred for more updates.
I've been on a bit of a health kick this year, and started really caring about what I put into my body. It's since affected the way I cook, the food I order, and the types of food I pick, when buying groceries. It's not always easy, of course...after all, who can resist the tantalising smell of fries, wafting through the air on a cold autumnal night? That said, there's so much joy in just eating fresh, healthy produce that leaves your body feeling so clean and well. I made a date with my friends Evelyn, Yan and Bev to visit Green Press, a small health foods bar tucked in a corner of Lt Collins St. We sat down with some smoothies and Açai bowls on their open-aired deck, and marveled at finding a gem of a place like this right smack in the middle of the CBD. We got the berry smoothie with spinach, almond milk and vanilla essence. Together with the açai bowl (which was packed with the goodness of açai, cacao, coconut flakes and muesli), it made for such a filling start to the day! I noticed that I stayed full from this meal for much longer than usual, and felt very energised throughout that day. Here's us taking a quick browse through the shops in the arvo: This episode with the yummy Açai bowl might've sparked a new desire in me to find the best Açai bowl in Melbourne... so far, I've got a few places in mind to try and I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on my findings :-) Hope everyone is having a relaxing and wonderful weekend!
