Broke out these babies to run a couple of errands in the city! Cuffed them, and paired them with a billowy crochet top that I got while on holiday in Bali.... been really loving the relaxed cut of these Miss Sixty jeans - it's equal parts laidback and sexy. Met my favourite girl Evelyn and set off for a cosy dinner after. Truly, there's nothing I love more than quality girl time :)
Have a great weekend, everyone! Here's a quick snapshot of my day: popped in for some coffee with Jake to escape the crazy winds and hail that was going on outside.
On a side note, I've received some questions from my friends about how I arrived at the name for my site - a short explanation behind the name 'Painting Rachel Red' can be found in the About page, at the top right hand corner of this website. Hope this helps! :) Follow me on Instagram: @ieatheartsxo for more updates. My friend Patrick and I have been desperately craving for fish tacos since we had some at the Mexican festival a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to make our own. In no way does ours match up to the Mamasita ones we had (which are the absolute BEST FLIPPIN' TACOS I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE), but it was pretty damn satisfactory, thanks to Pat's recipe! We marinated the fish in a homemade cilantro sauce, let it sit for about half an hour and chopped up vine tomatoes, red onions, coriander and spring onion for the pico de gallo salsa. Kicked back with a couple of beers and spent the afternoon lounging around and talking. P.S - Check out the breathtaking view of Docklands from Patrick's pad. Isn't it wild?!?!!! The weather in Melbourne has been quite erratic lately, with heavy rainfall and strong wind every other day. It has made dressing up fairly troublesome - do I wear a coat? Do I wear boots? Are my sneakers going to get soaked? Soooo many factors to consider before stepping out the door. Ran to Seven Seeds to meet the girls for a quick coffee before class - good old girl time was just what I needed to lift my spirits :) This is what I chose for a short day at school - a burnt orange velvet top with sheer panels, paired with a rose gold necklace from Topshop and a pair of cropped Leigh jeans by Topshop (which I am convinced are the best jeans EVER, they fit like a dream on me). Lately, whenever my friends and I got together over dinner, something along these lines would happen:
"Okay guys, surrender your phones!!!! Surrender it to the table" ????? Surrender....my phone? To the table? It sounds absurd, I know. It started as an attempt to get everyone to stop being distracted by their mobile devices and to be present, and in the moment. How it works is that the phones will be stacked in the middle of the table, and no one is allowed to reach for it. We found that this was really quite effective, and dinners since then have been very engaging - the conversation starts to flow, people contribute so much more... And it got me thinking about the attachment we have to our phones, social media and the circus that we've made it today. How often is it that we 1. Mindlessly scroll through Twitter / Facebook / Instagram at family meals (Guilty) 2. Get upset when someone who was recently seen on Whatsapp failed to reply your text? (Guilty) 3. Use Facebook to stalk the hot guy you met at the bar last night and begin collating a dossier worth of his educational background, family background, affiliated links and notes on ex-girlfriends within an hour (Might / might not be guilty.) (Ok I'm guilty.) 4. Order your friends not to touch their food until you have whipped out your iPhone and snapped ten thousand pictures of it for Instagram (UNASHAMEDLY GUILTY) (I have friends who get out of their seat and proceed to boldly stand on their chair to get an aerial shot of meals.............................) 5. Scramble to Instagram-vid a cool party / gig / concert / event you're at, because everyone knows that it ain't real, unless you social-media it. Duh. Why are we so obsessed with being connected, documenting every part of our lives and getting validation from the number of likes we get on our Facebook status? I think an interesting point to note is that with every hour we spend on Facebook, every picture we upload on Instagram and every tweet we send out, we are unwittingly becoming content creators for these companies...without being paid for it. This data is being sold to advertisers, who use it as a means to understand demographics. Surveillance companies today can track the location and habits of ordinary citizens through their smart phones, and I guess the question to think about is whether we're allowing our digital footprint to become someone else's business, quite literally. But in the words of Miley herself, "we can't stop.......we won't stop". What do you guys think? |
